Lorena Wiebes set the fastest time in the prologue of the Baloise Ladies Tour yesterday July 17th in Belgium. The Dutch rider rode an average of 49.59 kilometres per hour over the 2.7 kilometres to be covered, to clock a time of 3’16”. No other rider dipped below 3’20”.
“This is already a good start. I want to get the most out of the Baloise Ladies Tour to head for the Olympics with a good feeling,” said Wiebes after her win.
She added, “The feeling was good. It was a question mark how my legs would react after my altitude training camp, but I was able to go full throttle. It was a nice prologue and I’m glad it went that way. I chose to start early. If I didn’t ride the fastest time, then I could go to the hotel earlier for recovery and massage. But luckily I managed to set the best time and was waiting in the hot seat, after which no one broke my time. It’s a nice incoming after my altitude training.”
“I am here for the final preparation for the Olympics. I spent three weeks in an altitude chamber and it was very hot in Spain. So it was a double question mark whether I would feel good right away. I hope it continues like this for the rest of this week. It tastes like more. Before the Olympics I want to try to win as many sprints as possible and maybe also the ITT of the Baloise Ladies Tour. I want to get everything out of it!”
