Women’s cycling fans vote Coryn Rivera as their Spring Rider of the Year

Voxwomen and Rouleur have announced Team Sunweb’s Coryn Rivera as the winner of the Voxwomen Spring Rider of the Year.

Following a phenomenal opening to her first season riding on a women’s WorldTour team, women’s cycling fans from across the world voted Rivera as their winner of the first phase of voting in the 2017 Voxwomen Rider of the Year Awards. Just seven months into the season she has already racked up prestigious wins at the Tour of Flanders, Trofeo Alfredo Binda and a stage at the Amgen Tour of California amongst tens of other podium places.

Rivera said: “Awards like this are special to me because I think it’s not just about what I have accomplished, but about the people that have helped me to get to this point and have believed in me. It’s a huge honour to win the Spring Classics Rider of the Year, however I’d like to dedicate it to my team mates who get me to the finish line, the amazing staff who support us to do what we love, and the incredible votes from my friends, family, fans and supporters.”

The American pocket rocket will now go through to the next phase of voting which will take place in November at the Rouleur Classic Show (November 2-4) this year.

Following a successful first year, Voxwomen has expanded the voting protocol for the 2017 edition to ensure that women’s cycling fans can have their say on the winner. The 2017 Voxwomen Road Rider of the Year will be decided after a series of online votes. Firstly, a selection of stand-out riders from the spring, summer and autumn periods will be put to a public vote by women’s cycling fans and followers. The winning three riders from this vote will then be judged by an expert panel to determine the overall winner of the annual ‘Voxy’ award that will be announced at the Rouleur Classic Show.

Anthony McCrossan, Voxwomen owner, said: “Coryn has had a standout spring campaign so it comes as no surprise that women’s cycling fans and followers have voted for her in their droves to win this award. We look forward to continuing to follow Coryn’s progression and her successes for the remainder of the season.
