Vos Claims Second Green Jersey Victory

The 2024 Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift came to a thrilling end at the weekend, with Marianne Vos, representing Team Visma | Lease a Bike, securing the green points jersey. This marks the second time that the 37-year-old rider has won the sprint classification in the Tour de France.

“It is a great honour to win the green jersey again in the Tour de France,” Vos said after being presented with her prize. “It was quite a tough week, during which we fought hard as a team. Once the green jersey became a possibility, we seized the opportunity with both hands. Winning the green jersey makes me incredibly happy and proud.”

Team manager Rutger Tijssen also expressed his joy. “It’s really impressive that Marianne managed to win the points classification again. She fought incredibly hard for it. We made a plan every day to gather as many points as possible.”

However, Team Visma | Lease a Bike also faced setbacks over the course of the week. “For example, we also aimed for the best possible overall classification with Riejanne Markus,” Tijssen pointed out. “Unfortunately, that didn’t work out, partly due to physical issues. Nonetheless, it’s remarkable how the team adapted and managed to finish the race successfully by winning the green jersey. We rode as a close-knit team throughout the week, showed attacking spirit, and took responsibility.”

“For me personally, the Tour de France didn’t turn out quite the way I had hoped, but I am very proud of the team,” said Markus, who was in the breakaway group during the final stage to Alpe d’Huez. “I had really set my sights on this race. I can’t deny that it ended in disappointment for me, but it’s a relief that I could finish this Tour on a positive note,” the Dutch rider added, referring to the final stage and Vos’s victory in the points classification.
