Vittoria Bussi Sets New UCI Hour Record in Aguascalientes

Italian cyclist Vittoria Bussi has once again etched her name into cycling history, breaking the UCI Hour Record presented by Tissot with an astonishing ride of 50.455 kilometres. The record-breaking performance took place at the high-altitude Velodromo Bicentenario in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

This achievement comes just a day after an abandoned attempt, underscoring Bussi’s resilience and determination. With this ride, she surpasses her previous world record of 50.267 kilometres, set on the same track on 13 October 2023 — a milestone that had already made her the first woman to exceed the 50km mark.

Bussi, a 38-year-old mathematician and former middle-distance runner, has become a prominent figure in time trial cycling since taking up the sport at the age of 27. She previously held the Hour Record from 2018 to 2021 with a distance of 48.007 kilometres and has since remained a consistent competitor on the international stage. Among her accolades are multiple podium finishes in the individual time trial at the Italian National Championships and a bronze medal in the mixed team relay at the 2020 UEC European Championships. In 2021, she also claimed victory in the opening time trial of the Czech Tour de Feminin.

Reflecting on her achievement, Bussi said, “I can say with a smile that I contributed to the history of the UCI Hour Record for women. This record has always been really special to me as an athlete and as a person, and I hope I have transmitted to young generations and people that sport is not just an athletic performance but that athletes bring messages to the world. The Hour taught me that one of the most important things in life is to understand the preciousness of time in every single instant of our life.”
