Third Scheldeprijs Victory For Wiebes

Team SD Worx is still racing from one victory to another. In the Scheldeprijs Elite Women’s race in Flanders on April 5th, Lorena Wiebes recorded her third win in a row by beating Charlotte Kool and Chiara Consonni in the sprint. “The lead-out went perfectly,” said Lorena after the win. “The Scheldeprijs is the benchmark in sprinting, so to speak, so I wanted to take my third win in a row in this classic.”

In the Scheldeprijs, only one name remains on the list of honours for now. Lorena Wiebes confirmed her status as top favourite by winning the bunch sprint for the third year in a row. “This was a goal, yes. I want to win as many sprints as possible. After the cobbled section, the team immediately took the lead with two solid turns by Marlen Reusser and Mischa Bredewold. The lead-out train went perfectly, so I just had to finish it.”

“The Scheldeprijs is special after all. It’s like the value meter in sprints. So it’s nice to win a third time in a row. I started quite early and did feel Charlotte Kool coming up, so I switched up a gear. Whether you win by an inch or a bike length doesn’t matter. The important thing is that I put the Scheldeprijs to my name again.”

Good for already the 11th win of the road season for Team SD Worx. “You don’t even dare to imagine such a perfect season start beforehand. I feel I have taken a step forward with Team SD Worx. I have gained more volume and have become a slightly more complete rider.  As a result, I may have lost some pure speed in the sprint, but it is still enough to win sprints,” Lorena concluded.
