After Lorena Wiebes’ third place in Bruges-De Panne, Team SD Worx will start on Sunday with a strong team to go for the win in the Gent-Wevelgem. The team selection is Lorena Wiebes, Lotte Kopecky, Marlen Reusser, Christine Majerus, Lonneke Uneken and Elena Cecchini.
“This selection gives us the chances to play different cards again, which is the strength of Team SD Worx,” said sports director Anna van der Breggen.
In Gent-Wevelgem, Marlen Reusser will return to competition after a training camp at Sierra Nevada. Lotte Kopecky is riding her first race since her victory in Nokere Koerse and Elena Cecchini will also be in Ypres. Team leader Anna van der Breggen said, “Hopefully we can start again at full strength with six riders. On the one hand, this allows us to react better to the moves of other teams, but the strength of this team is that we can play different cards in the final. With Marlen Reusser and Lotte Kopecky, we can again opt for the attack, while we have Lorena Wiebes behind us for the sprint.”
Lorena Wiebes is looking forward to Gent-Wevelgem with confidence after Brugge-De Panne. “In Brugge-De Panne I made a mistake with my sprint for second place. In that respect, I’m glad it wasn’t for the win. This won’t happen twice.”
Lorena Wiebes will also start in Gent-Wevelgem in the purple jersey of leader in the WorldTour. “I think that leader’s jersey is special. It’s the first time I’ve worn it in my career. Gent-Wevelgem is also an important goal for me. We have a strong line-up at the start. I’m looking forward to being able to play the team game.”
