Sander Claims First Cross Win

Laura Lizette Sander has clinched the very first gold medal in cyclocross for AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step. In Narva, Estonia, the battle for the national cyclocross title unfolded on a challenging six-lap course filled with obstacles. After three laps, Laura took the lead and successfully maintained it until the finish.

After 41 minutes and 8 seconds, Laura crossed the finish line as the victor, boasting a 20-second lead over her pursuer, Elisabeth Ebras. The third place went to Elina Tasane, who crossed the finish line 1 minute and 17 seconds behind the winner. Earlier this year, Laura became the national champion in road cycling and time trials. This win shows the depth of her talent.

“In the first two rounds of the race, I didn’t feel at my best. It was bone-chilling, with temperatures as low as 0 degrees, which led to a drop in my rankings. However, I managed to recover swiftly, regaining my rhythm and confidence. With just three laps to go, I successfully claimed the top position, and by the end of the race, I had built a 20-second lead. I am truly delighted with this title, especially considering it was only my second participation in a cyclocross race!” said a jubilant Laura.
