Reusser Wins in Valencia

Marlen Reusser of Team SD Worx-Protime has won the Setmana Ciclista Valenciana, to cap a very successful four days in the Valencia region with two stage wins by Reusser and Niamh Fisher-Black. Reusser’s New Zealander teammate won the Queen stage on Saturday to finish third overall.

After winning the overall classification, Marlen Reusser said, “I am very satisfied with this win. My form is very good. These were some very steep climbs. This may not be a WorldTour race, but the level was high and the stages were tough. I was curious to see how it would go.”

“I’m super satisfied that it turned out this way. To win this classification, you had to be able to do a little bit of everything. In the second stage you had to be able to develop power on the rather ‘flat’ terrain. While the final climb in the 3rd stage was very steep. I climbed fast enough for the overall win. I was happy that Niamh won this stage. It meant a lot to her and to me. It’s very good for her confidence.”

“This is what I take from this race to the classics. The team did a super job. We needed some time to find each other. But it got better every day. This was fantastic teamwork, from the best I’ve experienced. This really touched me. We gave everything and the result was very nice.”

“The good form is definitely there. The team is also at a very high level. But this race is not an indicator for the classics. It’s very different. The climber’s peloton is an easier peloton to ride in than the classic ‘war’ peloton. I’m not focusing specifically on the spring classics this season because my biggest goals are in the summer, but of course it would be very nice to win one or two races. I’m always a little scared of these kinds of races. They are really big. I have a lot of respect for the classics and I hope I can be successful.”
