Gaia Masetti, the 21-year-old Italian cyclist who joined AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step in 2022, will continue to don the team’s jersey in 2024 and 2025. Following a season in which she witnessed substantial personal growth as a cyclist, she is determined to build upon this positive trajectory and strive for more remarkable performances.
“I am eagerly looking forward to the next two years with this team. Both on and off the bike, I feel entirely at home here. The familial and enjoyable atmosphere among both the riders and the staff is priceless. Moreover, at the age of 21, I am still in the midst of my development as a cyclist, with ample room to grow, and this team provides me with these opportunities without excessive pressure, which isn’t always easy to find in a top-level team,” spoke an upbeat Gaia.
“My inaugural race with AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step last year, the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, was incredibly challenging and made me question if cycling was truly my calling. The cobbled course felt like one of the toughest days of my life. However, in my recent race on the cobbles, Paris-Roubaix, I’ve noticed that my confidence and enjoyment have grown significantly, just as it did in the Amstel Gold Race in 2022 and 2023. My journey as a cyclist has been a steep learning curve. I am a rider who trains intensively and thrives on challenges. Transitioning from mainly short, flat races in Italy during my first two U23 years to classics was demanding. Year after year, I notice a difference.”
“At the moment, I am not specifically targeting particular races, but there are a few races on my radar. For example, I have a particular fondness for the Amstel Gold Race. It’s a race that appeals to me due to its challenging course with numerous short climbs, skills that suit me well. The Giro d’Italia was also a fantastic experience. This year, I made my debut there, and despite the daily efforts, it was genuinely enjoyable. So, perhaps I’ll set my sights on a stage in the Giro. In summary, it promises to be an exciting season ahead and I’m looking forward to it.”
