Unipublic and Consejo Superior de Deportes this week presented the leader jerseys of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es ahead of the 7-day stage race that begins on May 1st. The jerseys, made by Santini, will distinguish the leaders of the general classification, mountain classification, points classification, and the most combative rider of each stage. This edition of the race will distribute 130,000 euros in prizes; the highest amount of any professional one-week cycling race held in Spain. The best female riders in the world will compete for this prize purse and the coveted jerseys in just five days time in the biggest women’s cycling event in Spain and one of the largest in the world.
The red jersey, sponsored by Carrefour, the main partner of the race, will be worn by the leader of the general classification. The queen of the mountain jersey, sponsored by Fundación Deporte Joven, will reward the best rider in the mountain classification. For this ranking, riders will accumulate points in the different categorised climbs along the route (between 20 and 2 points depending on the category of the climb and the passing position).
The green jersey, sponsored by Škoda will go to the leader of the points classification. For this ranking, each rider will accumulate points between 50 and 1, according to their final position on the finish line, as well as the intermediate sprint competed in every linear stage.
The white jersey, sponsored by ElPozo BienStar, will be donned by the rider who, according to the jury’s decision, has been the most combative in the previous stage.
“They are just four jerseys, but their meaning goes much further. They represent the best of the sport practiced by women who, with this magnificent women’s race, continue to advance in visibility, projection, and recognition. In a few days, there will be many riders from all over the world who will fight to obtain them, and those who, with each pedal stroke, contribute to equality in sports” commented José Manuel Franco, president of Consejo Superior de Deportes, a key partner in the development of the race.
“These four jerseys are the hallmark of the race, it’s the reason why 161 riders will line up on May 1st in Torrevieja. We are very proud to present them here today because they represent the effort, commitment, and motivation that Carrefour, Consejo Superior de Deportes, Fundación Deporte Joven, Škoda and ElPozo have shown for this historic edition of La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es,” added Fernando Escartín, general director of the race. “Thanks to the support of all our partners, we can proudly say that La Vuelta Femenina is the Spanish professional one-week cycling race that will distribute the highest prizes: a total of 130,000 euros,”
The alliance between Santini and Unipublic celebrates its seventh anniversary in 2023. All leader jerseys are produced in Italy using completely sustainable materials: Ecofabric RECY by Corno, a fabric made with recycled thread from reused materials, and Native – Ecoknit by Sitip, made with recycled fibres and thread without polluting chemicals, to reduce natural resource consumption and dependence on non-renewable energies.
La Vuelta Femenina by Carrefour.es will start on May 1st in Torrevieja and conclude on May 7th with the mythical climb to Lagos de Covadonga. 161 riders will compete for the coveted leader jerseys along a route of more than 700 kilometres divided into seven stages: a team time trial, three flat stages, one medium mountain stage, and two mountain stages.
