Lotte Kopecky claimed the overall GC victory in the UAE Tour for Team SD Worx – Protime after a dynamic final stage in which her teammate, Lorena Wiebes almost took the day’s win. Wiebes finished second in the stage, following an unleashed Amber Kraak who managed to bring a long breakaway to a successful conclusion. Wiebes was successful in claiming the green points jersey. “This was a great preparation race for the classic work. The feeling is already good,” Wiebes said after the final stage.
Lorena Wiebes fell just short of keeping Amber Kraak from victory in the final stage. “The team did everything they could to get the leading group back,” she concluded. “It’s a shame I just fell short, especially for all the work Femke Markus, Femke Gerritse and Barbara Guarischi put in. But in the end, the overall ranking of Lotte Kopecky was the most important thing for us. This is a great start to the season for us. This race served mainly as preparation for the classic work and was a good test for our sprint train. The confidence in my train has increased even more, especially with Lotte as the final lead-out who I also dare to follow blindly in the finale. We showed great things together. The feeling is good towards the classics, especially now that I know my sprint is good. Now we have one more training camp in Spain to connect the dots.”
