A flat 19.3 km long course departing in Knokke-Heist and arriving in Bruges provided the battleground for the Junior time trial world champion title today in Belgium. It was a tense race right until the end, with 16-year-old Zoe Bäckstedt occupying the hot seat until the very final rider, Alena Ivanchenko, completed the course. The Russian rider ended up completing the route 10 seconds faster than Bäckstedt to take the title.
Ivanchenko clocked a time of 25:05, at an average speed of 46.2km/h, which was enough to hand her the rainbow jersey, which she now holds in addition to the European champion’s title, which she took in Italy earlier this month.
German rider Antonia Niedermaier rounded out the podium, stopping the clock 25 seconds down.
