In the Volta Limburg Classic on April 1st, Team SD Worx delivered another tactically clever race. Anna Shackley and Femke Markus went on the attack together. When they were then caught, Mischa Bredewold went on a solo attack. The 22-year-old Dutchwoman stayed in front, taking her first win for Team SD Worx. Behind her, her teammate Lonneke Uneken sprinted to second place to claim the ninth win of the season for the team and the fourth time Team SD Worx has taken both first and second place in a race. “This was the perfect day,” said winner Mischa Bredewold.
“This was a great race from Team SD Worx,” Mischa added. “We were always in control and really rode together. Femke Markus and Anna Shackley put us in a seat by being in the breakaway. Behind them, Barbara Guarischi, Niamh Fisher-Black and Lonneke Uneken were attentive. They responded to every attack, which made it easy for me to stay in front. I just had to wait for the right moment and attack.”
That moment came on the Moerslag. Bredewold attacked with 14 kilometres to go and arrived solo. Her teammate Lonneke Uneken then added to the dominance by riding to second place. “I am happy to immediately take my first victory in the colours of Team SD Worx already in my first year,” Mischa concluded. “This gives a lot of confidence and I am happy and grateful that I could perform this role within this team. It is my first victory in a one-day race. It may not be a World Tour, but it is still an important race. At Team SD Worx, every race is important, so we will celebrate this with champagne!”
