Ellen van Dijk Suffers Shoulder Fracture and Concussion in Ronde van Lekkerkerk Crash

Ellen van Dijk of Lidl-Trek sustained a fractured right shoulder and a concussion following a crash during the Ronde van Lekkerkerk criterium on Thursday. It has been reported that the crash occurred near the end of the race, leading organisers to cancel the event.

During the criterium, she was actively involved in the chase group when the crash happened. Her team confirmed this morning that she was taken to hospital, where scans revealed a shoulder fracture and that fortunately no surgery is required at this time.

More recently, her partner Benjamin shared on social media that Van Dijk briefly lost consciousness after the fall but regained awareness shortly thereafter. She was diagnosed with a concussion and has since returned home to recover.

Van Dijk has had a strong season so far. Her performances include victories in the Vuelta a Extremadura Femenina and the opening team time trial at La Vuelta Femenina.
