This set the stage for aggressive racing. Throughout the race, several SD Worx Protime riders launched attacks. These included moves from Anna van der Breggen, Femke Gerritse and Steffi Häberlin. However, everything came back together for a big bunch sprint into the famous uphill drag to the line. In these last kilometers Femke Gerritse & Anna van der Breggen chased down the front group, securing a sprint in which Blanka Vas rode to a strong second place behind winner from Lidl-Trek Elisa Balsamo and ahead of third place Movistar’s Cat Ferguson.

After the finish Blanka Vas said: “The whole team did a great job today. They positioned me well throughout the race. In the final lap, we were dropped due to the attacks from several teams, but luckily Anna van der Breggen and Femke Gerritse were there to bring me back and close the gap to the breakaway. Great job from them to bring me back! I felt good today. I had strong legs, but my positioning on the climbs wasn’t perfect. That’s why I’m really happy with how the team worked today to still bring me in a good position to sprint for the victory! It’s only my second road race of the season. Actually the first real one where I could fully compete the way I wanted to as I had a flat tyre in Strade Bianche early in the race. This is an amazing start to my first real classic campaign. Riding podium in a WorldTour one-day race gives confidence, so I’m really looking forward to the next classics!”
