Team Jayco-AlUla has made the team selections for two Spanish races this week – Durango-Durango on 16th May and the Vuelta Burgos stage race, from 18th to 21st May.
Team leader, Ane Santesteban said, “We have a really strong team for Durango and Burgos. The goal is the same for both races – we want to fight for the victory. It will be my 13th time racing Durango-Durango so I hope that my current shape and my experience on the course of Durango can help me to go for the victory.
For Burgos we have a mixed team as we have some fast riders for the first flat stages with Letizia and Alex and then for the last stage, which is a hard uphill finish to Lagunas de Neila like the last years, we have myself together with Urška and we can fight there for a good overall.”
Shawn Clarke, the team’s Sport Director added, “We’re going into Durango with Ane as our clear leader. She’s shown that she is in great shape, the race really suits her and as we’re one of the main teams that’s on the start list and we’re really looking to win it. I think we have a really strong team to support her.
For Vuelta Burgos, again we have a strong team and for the first three days we have both Letizia Paternoster and Alex Manly as really good options. Two of the stages can end up as uphill sprint finishes which suit both these riders down to the ground. Letizia has shown she’s quick for a bunch kick, so stage one should particularly suit her well.
The final day, which will decide the GC as it’s a hard summit finish, we will be supporting Ane and of course the days before we’ll be supporting and protecting her to make sure she doesn’t lose any time if there’s any splits or crosswind sections. It will be a hard four-days of racing, the level is very high at the moment, but we have good options to go for stage wins and the overall.”
